DOT SAP evaluations · Return-to-duty guidance
Your road back
starts here.
A violation can leave you with more questions than answers. CDL Return to Duty, LLC provides professional SAP evaluations and clear guidance for commercial drivers and DOT-regulated employees.
Need a follow-up evaluation?A clear path forward
One step at a time. With respect, not judgment.
Our commitment to you
Respectful, nonjudgmental guidance
Individualized recommendations
Clear next steps, no false promises
Professional support
Clarity when the next step matters.
A DOT Substance Abuse Professional evaluates employees who have violated DOT drug and alcohol rules and recommends education, treatment, and follow-up testing. The process is about transportation safety—not a shortcut to clearance.
For CDL drivers, owner-operators, and other DOT-regulated employees navigating a violation, we help make that process understandable.
Initial SAP evaluation
Start with a clinical assessment and individualized recommendations. Understand your responsibilities and the steps that come next.
Follow-up SAP evaluation
Review completion of your prescribed recommendations. The SAP assesses successful compliance; an appointment alone does not establish eligibility.
Driver & employer guidance
Understand Clearinghouse milestones, employer testing responsibilities, and the difference between SAP recommendations and general education.
The return-to-duty process
Six steps.
One informed path.
Select each step to see what it involves and who is responsible.
01DOT drug or alcohol violation
A positive drug test, alcohol violation, refusal, or other applicable DOT program violation requires removal from safety-sensitive duties and the appropriate SAP process.
02Initial SAP evaluation
A Substance Abuse Professional conducts a clinical evaluation and makes individualized education and/or treatment recommendations.
03Education and/or treatment
Complete the SAP-prescribed recommendations. General online resources do not replace your individualized requirements.
04Follow-up SAP evaluation
The SAP evaluates whether you have demonstrated successful compliance with the prescribed education and/or treatment.
05Return-to-duty testing
After the SAP determines successful compliance, your employer arranges the required return-to-duty test: a negative drug result and/or an alcohol result below 0.02, as applicable.
06Ongoing follow-up testing
The employer administers the SAP-established plan: at least six unannounced tests in the first 12 months after return to safety-sensitive work. Requirements may extend up to 60 months.
Driver education & resources
Know the rules. Know your responsibilities.
Start with authoritative information on testing, Clearinghouse registration, SAP designation, and employer responsibilities.
These are general educational resources, not individualized SAP-prescribed education or treatment. CDL Return to Duty, LLC is not a government agency and does not imply government endorsement.
Common questions
Before you begin.
Can I return to driving after my evaluation?
Not on the basis of an evaluation alone. You must complete applicable SAP recommendations, receive the required compliance determination, and meet employer-arranged return-to-duty testing requirements before resuming safety-sensitive work.
How long does the process take?
Timing depends on your individualized recommendations, completion of education or treatment, follow-up evaluation, and employer testing arrangements. No fixed completion timeline is promised.
What should I send when requesting an appointment?
Only share your appointment type and general scheduling preferences. Do not email clinical records, test results, Social Security numbers, or treatment documentation. Ask for approved secure submission instructions.

Your next chapter
You don't have to navigate
the next step alone.
Ask about an initial evaluation, a follow-up evaluation, or an employer referral. Start with a general inquiry—not confidential records.
